Over 70% of the planet is covered by the ocean. The ocean is the major regulating force in the earth’s climate system and represents the largest carbon sink on the planet. Healthy marine and coastal ecosystems, along with their services, are essential to maintain the earth’s life support system. That is why the United Nations has included conserving oceans as one of its global goals for sustainable development. To help achieve this goal, all countries are encouraged to prevent and significantly reduce marine pollution of all kinds, in particular from land-based activities by 2025.
The High Commission of Canada would like to invite members of the Canadian community in Singapore, including families and students, to join with Singaporean youth on 9 April 2016, in picking up litter along Changi Beach as part of a joint community coastal clean-up organized by the National Youth Achievement Award (NYAA) Council and the High Commission of Canada. While we do not expect to find a lot of rubbish, the occasion will serve as an opportunity for both communities to come together in recognition of the importance of protecting our oceans and our shared commitment in this regard. It will also serve as an excellent platform for bonding between the Canadian expat community and Singaporeans while making our beaches clean for all to enjoy.

Dr. Mohammad Maliki bin Osman, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Ministry of Defense and Mayor, South East District and H.E. Heather Grant, High Commissioner of Canada in Singapore

CanCham is pleased to welcome Marc Weinstein, Vice Principal, University Advancement at McGill University, Montreal, Canada, to highlight the value of higher education in Canada. Vice Principal Weinstein will address how Canada has traditionally been perceived by some as a cold country located far away from Singapore. In truth, the nation has some of the best and most reasonably priced universities in the world, located in cities that have been consistently ranked “most student friendly” globally. Through the case of McGill University, this presentation highlights what a leading 21st century research-intensive university in Canada and its global alumni network could offer potential students and parents in Singapore.Location

Welcome to the dbWoman event: Fatherhood and the workplace
DbWoman Singapore is pleased to partner with Catalyse Consulting to invite you to Fatherhood and the workplace: How organizations can support the changing roles of men and women in the family and at work – a pivotal cross-industry event graced by Minister for Social and Family Development, Mr Tan Chuan-Jin.
We are honoured to present Mr Michael Kaufman, PhD, as our keynote speaker. Michael’s groundbreaking work on fatherhood has transformed the way governments, business leaders and communities around the world look at parenting and gender roles.
In collaboration with Barclays Bank and State Street, we will also have a panel discussion that will bring leaders and policymakers across various industries together to debate key issues organizations face in supporting active fatherhood, and if it makes good business sense. The event will ask thought provoking questions about gender equality and how the role of men and women is evolving in the workplace and in family life, a topic of significance to all of us.
We welcome both men and women from corporations in Singapore to join us at this special event. HR professionals and leaders in corporations who shape and influence diversity policies are especially welcomed.
Together with our partners, we are excited to host this event and we look forward to engaging in a thoughtful and forward-looking discussion with participants.
Kind regards,
Huay-Imm Poh Oliver Bettin

The Singapore Apex Corporate Sustainability Awards are the most prestigious form of recognition for Singapore companies on Corporate Sustainability. The Awards recognise organisations which have demonstrated excellence in sustainability, and highlight standards for those aspiring to better their sustainability practices.
With the integration between Global Compact Network Singapore (GCNS) and Singapore Business Federation (SBF) Sustainable Development Business Group in April last year, this Awards build on both the GCNS Singapore Apex CSR Awards and SBF Singapore Sustainability Awards, which are held in commendation by the private sector in their own right.
Its criteria are not only well-aligned to the Ten Principles of the United Nations Global Compact, encompassing the areas of environment, human rights, labour and anti-corruption, but also recognise the companies attaining the triple bottom line.
Want to know more about the Awards? Join us for a briefing session on 19 April, 2pm - 4pm to understand the significance of the Awards and clarify all your enquiries!
Please email amirah.senin@csrsingapore.org to RSVP your attendance. Limited seats available, so reserve yours now!
Categories:
1) Sustainable Business - This category recognises businesses that excel in implementing sustainable practices within their core operations.
2) Clean Technology- This category recognises businesses that excel in developing outstanding clean technology solutions that address the sustainable needs of other businesses, the environment and society.
-Within each of these large organisations and SMEs, 5 organisations will be shortlisted, of which 3 winners will be chosen.
-Of these 3 winners, 1 will be selected to be awarded the Apex Winner. There may not be any Apex Winner awarded each year depending on the quality of applications.
-Organisations are eligible to be accorded the Apex Winner title only once. However, these organisations are permitted to re-apply for the Awards, bearing in mind that the highest achievement they can be awarded is “winner” from the second time round on.
-Awardees will be recognised at our annual Awards Dinner on 8 November 2017 evening at PARKROYAL on Pickering.

Please join Canadian, Dr. Matthew Peloso, Founder and CEO of Sun Electric, as he explores how blockchain has revolutionalised the way we think of transactions, leading to the dramatic rise of FinTech industries applicable to everything from shipping to bills payment. Bitcoin, the infamous launch of currencies encoded in cryptographic codes, still trades and has shown the world that information technologies impact on businesses and transactions are here to stay. In this presentation, Dr. Peloso will discuss how financial technologies can revolutionalise the renewable energy industry - demonstrating a certification of clean power projects in Singapore and a live transactional system for authenticating electricity transactions over Singapore's world-class electricity network.

BritCham has invited CanCham Members to join them for this upcoming event. CanCham members may registered at a preferred rate of $70/person.
Digital spans a broad spectrum of new ways to do business and is increasingly front of mind in surveys of CEOs (PwC/ KPMG). The panel discussion will cover three broad themes - underpinned with a foundation of cyber security:
1. Smart technology – Using IOT sensors, robotics and digital labour, to transform business operations in areas such as predictive maintenance
2. Skills – How to empower employees in a digital world
3. Innovation and insights from data - new ways to build out and increase loyalty from customers with new products and services
Digitisation impacts job security. No longer are 100s or 1000s of people needed to run energy operations in plants. It also creates new roles. Innovation is happening inside and outside of the organization. The challenge is to capture new ideas for the energy industry which is less agile that other sectors whilst transitioning from old to new energy systems
With automated workflows, machine learning, apps for accounting and controls, what skills will be required and is Singapore developing talent for the digital world?
Innovation is changing the way we use analytics to measure consumer behavior, predict demand and build new energy systems, safely and securely in a distributed world.

Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) are a significant pillar of Singapore’s economy, making up 99 percent of all businesses, employing nearly seven out of ten workers and contributing close to half of Singapore’s national GDP. A strong and growing SME community is essential to building a resilient and competitive Singapore economy.
The annual SME Convention is a carefully crafted event, dedicated to address the needs of the SME community. Each year the programmes are curated to provide SMEs with tangible information, that seeks to help SMEs build capabilities and access markets.
While the economy is easing into a state of stability, sentiments on the ground are generally still clouded with uncertainties. Instead of taking the traditional stance of waiting out to ride through the storm, there is an increasingly need for local businesses to leverage on new vehicles and tools for expansion and growth.
The theme for 2017 installment is simple, but vital. “Opportunities In 2018" aims to equip the delegates with actionable outcomes, to better position themselves for growth.

FUTURE ECONOMY CONFERENCE AND EXHIBITION 2017
The global economic landscape is changing rapidly. With rising protectionist sentiments in some parts of the world, businesses are also concerned about lackluster demand while coping with domestic challenges such as business costs and helping workers to upgrade their skills. At the same time, digital trends threaten to disrupt traditional business models. Some companies have risen to the challenges and embraced new technologies and innovations while others are trying to adapt. The time for transformation is now.
The inaugural Future Economy Conference brings together government, trade associations and chambers, thought-leaders and practitioners across industries to collaborate and learn best practices from one another. Everyone can play a part to achieve higher growth and productivity in the future economy. The event’s focus on the Industry Transformation Maps (ITMs) aims to provide greater clarity on how companies can become future-ready by transforming and strengthening their capabilities so as to move towards the next phase of growth and collectively, bring Singapore’s economy to the next level.

We have much to celebrate in 2017! It is Canada's 150th birthday and Finland's 100th birthday. To celebrate these milestones together in Singapore, and as founding members of the Arctic Council, we joined forces to create this exciting month of Arctic-themed activities in the heart of Singapore - at the beautiful National Museum. Canada and Finland were among the original founders of the Arctic Council. Canada was Chair of the Arctic Council in 2013, when Singapore joined as an observer. Finland is current Chair of the Arctic Council. While Singapore might be far away geographically from the Arctic, what happens in the Arctic has implications for Singapore's geography, environment, and economy. The melting of polar ice threatens to raise sea water levels around the world - it is low lying island states that will be most affected. At the same time, shipping routes in the Arctic may open up, creating economic opportunities. How we balance these opportunities and risks is a key challenge - and one of great relevance. Do not miss the opportunity to come and learn more about one of the world's most fascinating, remote regions. All events are free, but some do require registration. We are bringing the Arctic closer to home, here in Singapore!

Brought to you by the BritCham Energy & Utilities Committee
The 10th Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW) held at the end of October 2017 by the Energy Market Authority (EMA) attracted over 10,000 energy executives to discuss a range of topics covering the energy transition - Oil, Gas, LNG, Electricity, Sustainable, Distributed Energy, Digitisation and Advanced Analytics.
At this breakfast panel, we will be reviewing the key themes emerging from the SIEW together with senior sector leaders of the industry, finance, government and NGOs. Our esteemed panel includes senior representatives from Singapore’s regulator, major oil companies, electricity, engineering society and the sustainable energy and energy finance sectors.
Attendees will hear of local and regional impacts affecting their roles in Singapore in 2018, with topics spanning investment, finance, technology and innovation. Panellists will also consider how regulation is changing the status quo for a Singapore-based business. Ultimately, this will help identify new connections and opportunities for those who service the energy value chain.
This session is planned as a post-SIEW event to review key themes and look ahead (near and medium term) at the prospects for the sector in 2018 and beyond.

About Singapore CAE Flight Training
CAE and Singapore Airlines have created a joint venture for pilot training in Singapore called Singapore CAE Flight Training that commenced operations on the 21st August 2018. The joint venture focuses on providing simulator training for Boeing Aircraft types, supporting SIA group and other operators’ pilot training needs in the region.
Through the addition of new equipment, the training facility will provide a full range of initial type rating and recurrent training programmes for Boeing B737MAX, B747, B777 & B787 aircraft types.
CAE is a global leader in training for the civil aviation, defence & security and healthcare markets. Backed by a 70-year record of industry firsts that commenced in 1947, CAE continues to help define global training standards with our innovative virtual-to-live training solutions to make flying safer, maintain defence force readiness and enhance patient safety. We have the broadest global presence in the industry, with more than 8500 employees, 160 sites and training locations in over 35 countries. Each year, we train more than 120000 civil and defence crew members and thousands of healthcare professionals worldwide.
The SIA Group’s history dates back to 1947 with the maiden flight of Malayan Airways Limited. The airline was later renamed Malaysian Airways Limited and then Malaysia-Singapore Airlines (MSA). In 1972, MSA split into Singapore Airlines (SIA) and Malaysian Airline System. Initially operating a modest fleet of 10 aircraft to 22 cities, SIA has since grown to be a world-class international airline group.
Singapore Airlines is committed to the constant enhancement of the three main pillars of its brand promise: Service Excellence, Product Leadership and Network Connectivity. The SIA Group fleet and network are also expanding in support of the development of its portfolio strategy, in which it has investments in both full-service and low-cost airline operations. This portfolio of airlines serving short-, medium-, and long-haul markets gives the SIA Group more flexibility and nimbleness, with the right vehicles to serve the right markets.
